Filter media

Phinella systems are equipped with different filter media or cartridges for water treatment. This ensures maximum safety and water quality. The sequence is the same for all models. The water flows through the following in order:

1. Activated carbon pre-filter

The pre-filter consists of a sintered activated carbon monoblock. Unlike, for example, activated carbon granules, this ensures particularly efficient and consistently high filtration performance over a long period. Pre-filtration with activated carbon effectively protects the downstream RO membrane from chlorine and coarse debris. This significantly extends the membrane’s service life, increasing it to between 3 and 10 years or even more.

2. Reverse osmosis membrane

The key feature: The combination of excellent filtration results and a long service life makes our reverse osmosis membranes so special. The membranes are handcrafted in small batches in Italy, exclusively for us. This guarantees you the highest quality and, consequently, strong and reliable filtration performance. The membrane type and number of reverse osmosis membranes vary depending on the Phinella model.

3. Combined post-filter

The combined filter cartridge consists of an activated carbon monoblock and a capillary membrane (0.15 µm fineness). This prevents any germs from the filtered water side (= permeate) from passing back through the tap to the membrane and colonizing it. This keeps your system fresh and safe at all times!

4. Remineralisation cartridge (optional)

The reverse osmosis process removes all pollutants from the water, as well as all salts and minerals. This makes the water slightly acidic (pH 4-6) and more reactive. In the remineralisation cartridge, the water can remineralise with minerals such as calcium and magnesium. This optimises the taste and physical structure through water revitalisation. Dolomitic limestone or Sango marine coral are used as remineralisation media.

Thanks to clear labeling, changing the filter is child’s play.

Filter media replacement intervals

For hygienic reasons and to ensure the safe removal of contaminants, the cartridges or filter media must be changed regularly. The revitalisation and vortexing unit is not affected by this.

Filter mediumReplacement interval
Activated carbon pre-filter1-2 times a year*
Reverse osmosis membraneevery 3 – 10 years*
Combined post-filteronce a year
